test drove a rsx base
was great, no problems that i heard any of you guys mention while reading in that part of AF. i test drove a 2002 rsx base model. it was completly stock except for the apexi exhaust.(go figure) anyway i loved the car, no gear grinding or anything. they are asking 13500 for the car, which has 52k miles on it and i was wondering what should i look for before i purchase it? the carfax is perfect. i am currently in Wisconsin, but the car was a Flordia car. anything that i should be concerned about or really make sure i check before i buy? im planning on test driving it again on thursday this week.

Re: test drove a rsx base
i honestly wouldn't waste my money on a base model i would jsut shell alittle more money out for a type S. you would be alot happier that way. the K20 in the base model is not even a real v-tec.
when the type S has 3 lobes per cylinder which alters life and duration, the base model is some cheesy v-tec where it opens 3 valves off v-tec for better swirl and fuel economy and when you finally hit v-tec all 4 valves open. pretty gay if you ask me.

Re: test drove a rsx base
Maybe it's more of a fuel issue than a performance issue. Base model has 9.8:1 cr and type-s has 11.0:1 cr. You can probably get away with running 87 for the life of the base rsx (which probably already has been done) or you can go with the higher compression, better vtec model and hope the previous owner never cheaped out at the pump.

Re: test drove a rsx base
I'd pay more for the Type S as well. Look harder, you should be able to find one for not much more.

Re: test drove a rsx base
another vote for the S!
base model sucks big time and for 13K you could do sooooooo much better!

Re: test drove a rsx base
yea, but its value is 15k....im really thinking about it. gas prices rising isn't helpin me slowly upgrade from a slower car to a faster car. plus the pops actually agrees on me with this car. that is the main problem. if it was up to me i woulda spent about 4k on a tranny and engine swap, and then turbo the sr20ve....but the pops doesn't agree on it and wouldn't really like it since its a 'racing' car. plus he tells the insurance company about everything. the main thing is to upgrade from my 16 sec slow auto car to a faster one or equal that has major aftermarket.
i was looking at a 1995 prelude si for 8k has 75k miles, but as i looked tehre isn't much aftermarket unless i want to do everything custom. i was alost looking at a 300zx but if anything wrong happenson it, its a hefty price to fix it. The major bump is to have the pops(father, car goes in his name since im not 18) agree with what i want to buy. i tried to get a stang gt, nio go. too high insurance, rwd for snow is a no go. sounds like i cant really do anything till im 18...so im trying to get a fairly new car that is moderatly fast to build up. sorry for the long write up.

Re: test drove a rsx base
but your not getting it, the step that your making is going from your sentra to a low 16 second car. if you honestly think a low 16 second car at best is worth 14K then be my guest.
i wouldn't even put any money into that engine becasue its a dead end engine. nobody hooks that engine up seriously becasue it wasn't designed for power and its not real v-tec. why would you want to spend that much for a car if your going to swap the engine anyways to gain another 40hp? sounds like a waste of another 4K on top of that. you see what we're saying here? its just not worth the money no matter how you cut it. your better off just waiting till your 18 and get something that you really want and not settle for a car thats not even considered a half way car. the base model RSX is a terrible car to the eye of someone who wants a quick car. casue its dirt slow. ( trust me your not really stepping up if your goin from a 2.0 sentra to a base model rsx ) AGAIN NOT WORTH 14K for such a small jump in performance. and to prove that the RSX is a low 16 second car, just look at the civic Si. that thing runs a 16.1 at like 88mph with a 5 speed tranny. your rsx base model runs on the exact same drive train hence you would yeld similar results ( but only if you can drive it right. then you can hit the amazing time of 16.1 that can't even break 90mph at the trap. )

Re: test drove a rsx base
if you really like the car THAT much, keep it untill you get older, 18+ and turbo it, its the only way to be for the non type s
depending on what you plan to do after graduation, you're a senior last time i remember, correct? you staying with pops and ma after graduation? or leaving far away for college? if you're leaving like me, you're gonna want a reliable car and cheap maintenance, low gas consumption, etc etc....... the non type s would be OK with this plan, and you can turbo it down the road later when you get the extra $$ in the bank. But, if you staying with pops and ma after graduation, I say listen to Tat and get a type Sssssss.......just plan it all out and have it in your head what you wanna do with the car and $$, cuz its always the $$ thats in the way, unless your folks are loaded, then you can get whatever you like

Re: test drove a rsx base
i honestly dont tat. when i ment swappin engines, i meant outta the sentra. it currently has the sr20de, and i would swap for sr20ve and turbo it. the sentra i have now i AUTO(i hate it).....damn thing takes for ever to shift when i want it to. seriously anything will seem faster to me. the point of the rsx base it that it saves on gas, lower compression so i can turbo it when i want to, and is reliable. my car is about as reliable as the next guys new civic, but its the AUTO thats killing me. if i could spend 14k where i wanted it, i would right now probobly have a 88 supra(MKII?), everything restored on it and in total working condition, plus the goodies.
btw my parents are loaded, just cheap on everything but their cars. they just bought a 2006 corrolla s and a 2006 sienna with everything....they aren't cheap when it comes to cars, but picky on what i can and cant buy or do to the car since it's in his name.....damn bastards

Do no get a RSX base. It would be the biggest waste of money ever. It wont be quick, or feel quick, even with a stick. Really, I mean, I ran doors with a RSX-S with an axle back, and I'm probably the second slowest person on the boards (I think ric(er) is slower). If you want something that feels kinda quick with a stick, get an older Si. If your dad will go with you on a RSX base, I'm sure you can get him to go with an older (like 99) Si. Its FWD, its good on gas, its a fricking Civic so it will last till the end of days, and I'm sure it will be cheap on insurance. You can chill with it for a bit, maybe some light bolt ons, and then when you wanna go fast, you can add all the boost you want.

Actually... they are cheap. If they're loaded, a Corolla S wouldn't cut the mustard. Just saying... don't try and sell us that story and back it up with "they bought a Corolla S... they ain't cheap when it comes to cars!" It's like... a double negative. Doesn't flow B! I'm not saying that to be a dick... but I hope you see my point.

Re: test drove a rsx base
^ no wait.....i thought it was the corolla XRS?? i could've sworn its an XRS, in a couple different threads ago, he said his mom bought an XRS, well......you dont see brand new XRS everyday, thats for sure, redneck is right though, its still a corolla........the XRS is the highest model for the corolla, but i think what chiquea is trying to say is that the fact that it's brand new and all....and the brand new sienna......
and is this a compliment cassie? Quote:
