Re: Saturn 99 SL1 ECT check and replacement

electronic coolant temperature sensor.

it is located on the drivers side of the head just barely above the trans housing. now checking it is another thing, are you getting a temperature reading? is it showing hot when you first start up cold? if you were told its bad but your temperature gauge seems to work normal, then there isnt much more of checking it. and to check resistance on it is practically useless, so replacement is the best option as long as you know its bad. saturns typically go through these things, mainly the stock plastic ones. replacement should be brass, dont get another plastic one.

with what is involved in removing it, replacement once removed is the best option, because otherwise you get to drain the coolant down to pull this little thing out. replacement is quick so you dont loose much coolant.
