Road Noise/Chatter
I have a 99 Trooper and am experiencing a random chattering at speeds above 40-50 mph. It sounds like something in the suspension due to its random nature. The sound is similar to loose brake pads but it is not remedied during braking.
Any Thoughts? |

Re: Road Noise/Chatter
So it seems that the noise is coming from the front end. I found that when 4 wheel drive is engaged, there is less rattle (still some). When I played w/ the FWD drive shaft it had some rotational play. I don't know if this is normal.
Any ideas? |

Check for loose exhaust heat sheilds they are pretty random.

Re: Road Noise/Chatter
It sounds too clunky to be a heat sheild and now it is begining to occur at progressively lower speeds. It doesn't happen when it is cold, but after getting off the highway the noise will become a steady (heavy metallic) tick at low speeds.
Completely Puzzled. |

Re: Road Noise/Chatter
Have you had your front wheel bearings greased? I'd lift the front end off the ground and wiggle the tires to check for play and to see how easy the tires roll (in 2wd).
