obd-II question
Howdy everybody ive been looking to get rid of my sixer for a z28 for awhile now, im looking at a couple of 95 lt1's and a 96, but i read in a magazine that the obd-II sometimes goes weird with mods, is this true at all?
well heres the quote from it "the electronic engine monitoring system that has occasionally been known to fly into computerized conniptions when confronted with modified or non-stock parts." i didnt know if i should stay away from the 96 and 97's or if its really no big deal

The 95's aren't OBD II, they are OBD I hybrids. If the 96 is early enough in the model year it too may not have crossed over just yet.
As for the 'canniption fits', yes you will have to tune the PCM to respond correclty.

ok i thought the obd-II started in 96 thats why i was asking, cause i was looking at one, thanks for the help though!

You may have to tune odbII more but from what I understand you can get better results because it will operate more efficiently.

95 is like OBD 1.5 (Has some OBDII components and requires an OBDII scanner). I think u have more tuning options with OBDII also. IF u get a late 96 and newer car, the computer is full OBDII and for emissions they just plug in a scanner and u pass if there are no trouble codes in the computer. Even though 95 is basically OBDII, they still put it on the rollers and do a tail pipe test

Tuning wise OBD1's are better... easier to tune... thats why a lot of people go through with OBD1 swaps... OBDII's have a lot more sensors and can better diagnose a problem.... I'm sure someone has written up a comparison on the internet if you want to look around a bit.... I wouldnt not buy a car just because of which OBD system it has... its not a huge difference
