Unhappy Engine shutting off

Hi everyone,
Been having incidents recently of my 1999 Intrigue 3.5L cutting out, whether its in local traffic or highway driving which was fun at 70mph trying to changing lanes! I have read of this problem before here on this forum. The car is not throwing up any codes with 2 different mechanics checking it out. Will the crankshaft position sensor always show a code if it is faulty or could it be the ignition switch instead/as well and which should I replace first. Thanks.

Re: Engine shutting off

You are in the right direction. I lost powere twice making a left hand turn in my Trig. mechanic told me to lighten the load on my key chain and never had that problem again. My knee was hitting the key chain as I turned the wheel.

Because of the problems with the crankshaft sensors, I would go that route first.

Re: Engine shutting off

Explain when your car is cutting out.

CKP sensor:
Mine would cut out exactly right before the 1/4 temp mark after about 2 minutes of driving. Then it was fine. You could restart it right back up in neutral. The car wouldn't turn off, it would just lose about 400 rpm and that is below idle rpm = so it would stall out. Keep the revs up,by driving in 2nd gear, around 1500 rpm and you should be able to feel the 400rpm blip.

If the SES (service engine soon) light comes on you have codes.

There are a ton of ignition switch replacements on these cars. = That's what I think you have. Especially if it's cutting out inconsistently.
