Funny Business- Silly STRUT Question

I just bought two new fron struts and had them installed at a big chain auto maintenance place two days ago. They were a decent price, brand name, and supposedly brand new. However, when I inspected them today I noticed that they both had red, semi-parallel but non-uniform paintlines on them. Similar markings to what they use at junkyards to label their stuff. Is it possible that they came from the factory that way? Or is it likely that the chain would put that marking there after installation? Or are they likely used? Or am I just crazy? Lol!
