adjustable cam gears
i just purchased some itr cams and aem cam gears for my gsr. but here's the thing. when i told my mechanic today that i want to cut my valve cover on the side so that i can see and make adjustments to the cam gears easily he told me that i should do that because it's very risky. he said that there is a very good chance that something could get caught up in my timing belt and ruin my whole engine. i know enough about cars to get around (being modest) and to me that kind of sounds like a crock of s**t. i mean after all, just about everybody that upgrades to adjustable cam gears does that right? but i must note that he is a good technian and he doesn't like to take chances. can anybody give me any advise on this subject. please. thanks in advance.

Re: adjustable cam gears
Barely anything gets under the hood except for dust and stuff, unless you tend to off-road in your Honda...

Re: adjustable cam gears
Buy another valve cover; cut the spare cover you have. When you're getting the car tuned, just swap in the one with the hole cut, then when you're done just swap the original one back in.

Re: adjustable cam gears
^That's what you should do. I was helping a friend work on a car last summer and we found a big chunk of wood behind the t-belt cover of a b18c1. The only way it could have gotten there was from the hole in the valve cover. But, I never saw anything like that happen before or since.
