97 hx electrical malfunction...

Hey guys,

So I'm in the freeway halfway through a 2 hour drive late tonight when my "low battery" dash light goes on. I have no other options, so I keep driving. Everything's fine, no strange noises or anything, and I get to the offramp to my apartment when suddenly everything goes wonky, in this order:

1) Tachometer flips around then goes to zero and stays there
2) Speedometer follows suit
3) SRS (Airbag) dash light goes on
4) No more power steering, so I have to use some force to turn the wheel
5) Headlights are dim
5) Turnsignals don't work

Don't worry, I got home safe. Aw. When I opened the car door to get out, the car alarm goes off (I guess it armed itself because the battery was low).

So what's going on here? Poltergeist? Some wire touched something it shouldn't have? Scrambled computer? Or just low battery, which would mean the generator is broken? Any ideas?

Re: 97 hx electrical malfunction...

Hey im kinda in the same situation. I have had 3 problems with my 97 i had an extream amount of current draw from the battery it ended up being my rear defrost was on all the time fix- replaced rrdefrost relay. then I had another fuse poping with keys in off it ended up being the door lock controler. but now im having a problem with the fuel ignition module fuse poping when key is turned to on postition I installed a new computer module fixed the problem of the fuse popping. I traced all the electrical problems to a bad volatage regulator in the altinator it ended up sending a great amount of electrical current and fried the battery, main relay, the computer, rear defrost relay, power door lock controller, both head lights and both tail lights, and the cruiz control.
