Unhappy Cylinder Head

I have a 98 Eclipse RS NT I think I could have a cracked head it is being tested now I should know monday. Hopefully it is just the gasket, but here is my ? if the head is cracked can I buy a better head or should I just stay with the stock replacement?

Re: Cylinder Head

You need to buy a stock replacement. There's no such thing as an aftermarket head. It's what you do to the head that makes it custom then.

If the head is cracked, you can get a head by itself for pretty cheap off ebay. Then, take all the internals (valves, springs...) and put them in the new head. I wont cost too much to do. Installation of the new head in the engine will be alittle more, unless you can do it yourself.

However, it's almost impossible to crack a head. It's more than likely the head gasket (if it's leaking). Those are cheap (~$65), and installation can be inexpensive too. Let me know if you need anything. Good luck

Re: Cylinder Head

$65 for a head gasket? Check www.rockauto.com and ebay, you should be able to do better than that. Pulling the head isnt all that hard, I just did it on my Talon. If your head gasket shit, you should get the head resurfaced while its out, but I dont think thats too expensive.

Re: Cylinder Head

It was a bitch gettin to my head had to take the whole engine out. My car was leaking oil from the head and overheating so we desided to take the head and have it checked to see if it was cracked cant really tell by looking at it. I looked at a few places around here Auto Zone Advanced all them and a new head for my car runs about 700 and a gasket about 100 (I could do better on ebay) but if its just the gasket I will spend the 100 and not have to wait for the people to ship me the part. Thanks for the replys.
