02 GT boost
I have a 2002 Mustang GT with a P-1SC ProCharger and 3 core intercooler. When it was first installed, we were boosting about 6 PSI and it put down 365 RWHP. We installed a different pulley, which put out 10 PSI at the rev limiter and got almost 405 RWHP. I'm happy with the greater boost, but I don't want to damage the motor. Also I'm at high altitude (almost 5,000 feet) and I'm concerned about driving to the west coast, where I'm afraid the blower would be boosting 12lbs. or more.
Does anyone know what the maximum boost a stock GT motor will handle safely. I've heard 8 or 9 pounds is all this motor will support, but I'm wondering if anyone has personal experience running higher boost, successfully or not. |

Re: 02 GT boost
just wondering what other modifications you have done to your car and what times does it run with that modification done to it? I am in the process of doing the exact same process and I am curious to what actually results from this modification. From what ive asked around, the motor should be able to handle the boost at 10 PSI. Dont quote me on that though...

Re: 02 GT boost
With OEM tires, X-pipe, cat-back, cold air and bigger MAF and TB, it went 15.33 at Mile High Denver. When I put in 3.73s, it went 14.88, once. Mostly it was around 15.05. It's a convertible and weighs 3,660 with me and 4 gallons of gas in it. Back then it dyno'd 247 RWHP.
I don't know where you live, but sea level times should be almost a second quicker. Since a roll bar is required in a convertible running quicker than 13.5, I haven't run it since I had the ProCharger installed. So I have no idea what it will do now, but if it doesn't do closer to 12s than 14s, I'll be disappointed. |

Are you running or have you run boost that high?

Re: 02 GT boost
hes asking if due to the lowering of his altitude and the increase in the atmospheric pressure, is he going to be running at too high of a PSI and damage his car. Hes running at 6 PSI at 5,000 ft higher than where hes going...but to be honest...I dont think that 5000 ft will have a 6 PSI increase. Just my opinion...thats a ton of increase in PSI

Re: 02 GT boost
just colder air in the winter will change the psi by 1 or 2 or maybe 3

Re: 02 GT boost
Actually, I'm currently running a pulley that gives me 10 psi at the high altitude. I'm guessing I'll increase 2 lbs (up to 12) at sea level.
I think I'll just put the bigger pulley back on which will give me 6 lbs at home and 8 lbs at sea level. I know that will be safe. |
