Zx2 Auto Tranny Question
I have herd alot of "not so good things" about the ZX2 Auto trannys. I would like to have an opinon from every1 here about a ZX2. It has 85k miles its a 2000 no real "obvious" racer signs (it is an auto which i think i made obvious).
They want 4000 for it. Deal? No deal? I live in louisiana if that makes any difference about anything. Just wondering what should i watch out for as for as tranny issues go. I really want the car but it will be my main mode of transportation so I don't wannt to buy somthing that I need a new tranny for in 4 months. Thanks ahead of time. |

Re: Zx2 Auto Tranny Question
I bought a 1998 ZX2 in 2003 with 70k and still drive it today. It has 126k on the original auto tranny. In the cold it slips just a little from first to second, but that is all. It did that with 70k, so I've just gotten used to it. Nothing has ever broke, and no shavings have ever showed up in the pan.

Re: Zx2 Auto Tranny Question
in all vehicles that you take "racing" of any kind thats autocross, timetrap, street, strip, road, drifting. you are putting your vehicle under more then average stress. in the case of the auto tranny, its like tightening a bolt. you might get lucky and get that last turn you want, or youll snapp the pos off. i deal with a few passerby zx2's, escorts, and other affiliates. and ive taken the time to ask the owner about thier trans. some have 175 gand, on tranny 1, others are on thier 5th. im on my first, got 36 grand on it. the front clutches slip.
if i were you ild go for a stick, mostly because of costs, its ussually cheaper to replace a bent fork, or clutch, then the whole damn auto. also for different reasons, its lighter, more sporty, you are in control. and they are cheaper, since not that many can drive stick anymore.

Re: Zx2 Auto Tranny Question
My 2001 ZX2 has a 132,000 on it and the Automatic transmission is doing good. I bought mine about a month ago. I have since given it the most profound tuneup it has ever had. Mine was a one owner car and she never did anything for the rascal. I bought it and have invested well over a $1000 in tuneup work. I hope it pays off, right now everything is A OKAY.

Re: Zx2 Auto Tranny Question
for the hell of it, i would like to hear that list of tune up things. 1 grand doesnt buy alot. especially if replacement parts are in order, dont get me wrong you can do alot with a grand. but you can also do little dependant on how much you did, a pro did ( because sometimes we dont have the especialty things like a trans flusher, or coollant exchanger), and how much good you actually did. ive learned you can spend a ton of money on a simple problem, especially the intermittent problems. and still not fix it, then when you realize you spent 500 bucks over a 2.50 sensor clip, you feel like crap (ild know)

Re: Zx2 Auto Tranny Question
our shop includes anything with a distributer, points, rotor< all that fun jazz is included.
and inspections are... well its complicated. we have a 71 cutlass that we are doing a "road worthy" test. which means if it wears (short of power train components) we check it. we also have "basic" all fluids, steering assemblies (ie trac bars, wheel bearings, tie rods), tire wear, any visable wearing comonents, however we dont go into breaks on it or take too much time on certain things. then we have "power train" inspections which is a front to back check ( compression, oil leak check, pressure test, filters... ive seen joe check main bearings... but im not sure if that was requested) and then we have the individualized checks broken down into S&S, brakes, engine performance, ect. the differences are about 40 bucks between them. doing the jobs themselves though the price goes up.
