97' Civic EX - Engine Quit
'97 Honda Civic EX 1.6L VTEC Manual Transmission 132,000 miles.
I was hoping I could get some ideas on what the cause of the problem I'm having is... Earlier today I installed a new radiator. Everything has checked out okay, the temp guage reads just fine. There is antifreeze (and oil for that matter). I ran the car about 15 miles earlier today without ANY problems. I went out to dinner not long ago, and as soon as I pulled into my neighborhood on the way home I put my foot back on the gas pedal and it felt like it was going to stall. I wasn't getting any power. I gave it a bit of gas, not much happened. I saw my oil light come on, then the battery. The engine then quit. I can't get it to restart. I just keep cranking and it doesn't want to turn over. The oil light will go off if I crank it for a few seconds. Sometimes if I stomp on the gas pedal at the right time, it sounds like it got a shot of gas. Hard to say. Might just be my imagination. The only causes to the problems that I can think of are: 1) I installed the new radiator incorrectly (not likely though, not that I'm ruling it out) 2) Bad fuel pump/filter 3) Timeing Belt went I'm certainly no mechanic. Please help if you have any ideas! I'm a poor college student that desperatly needs to fix his car before class resumes early next week! =P |

I'll check them later. I'm at work right now. All my electronics seem to be functioning normally though. If that turns out not to be the problem, anyone else have any ideas? |

Re: 97' Civic EX - Engine Quit
At this point, I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fuel system. I'm going to try a new fuel filter and go from there.

Re: 97' Civic EX - Engine Quit
Update: Everything checked out ok with the fuel systems.
I should have checked earlier (would have been faster, but I needed a new fuel filter anyhow) for any problems with spark. Well, I tested, I'm not getting a spark. So, I'm going from there. I have the Haynes manual, and I'll see what I can come up with. Thanks again for the help. |
