New Rod/Piston combo.... motor is ripped down to block!

Alright guys here it is 91 GSX motor completely torn down to the block. In taking out the crank i noticed the bearings had grooves in them. Enough so you can feel them with your finger. So im guessing thats bad. This week I am going to clean the block and off to the machine shop goes the motor. The following will be done:

Clean and check Block $100~
Balance rods, crank, flywheel $150
LongHone? $95
Re-do rods $50
Grind and polish the crank $85
Put pistons on Rod $35

Now after this I'm looking to invest in new rods and pistons. and bearings (??Clevite 77's??) Spelling is wrong...way wrong... Heard about eagle rods with what pistons?

I'm looking to run 16-18 PSI of boost w/BIG16G turbo, Apexi N1 Cat back, Apexi N1 Down pipe, maybe a highflow cat, stock SMIC...

Other than that (i'm on a quick note, i have to get to work) I'm looking to stay within reason with $$ but have a motor that i can take to the track and turn up the boost and be safe(want to beat dads 2006 convert corvette 6 speed (non z06). So yea. I kno i have to upgrade fuel system inorder to run higher boost, but i want my motor capable of it. Would you guys get an electric boost controler or a manual?... GOT TO GO TO WORK!

Thank you guys!

What do you mean re-do rods? That machine work sounds pricey to me. You are gonna clean the block and then take it to the machine shop to be cleaned? That's like brushing your teeth before you go to the dentist Clevite is spelled correct, and they make a good product. Sounds like you already have a good plan, so what are you asking? All of the major aftermarket companies make good pistons, so it's just a matter of personal preference really.

Re: New Rod/Piston combo.... motor is ripped down to block!

When i was getting prices for maching every shop told me (well the ones with dsm experience) the 4g63 was already pretty well balanced and a balancing would not do a whole lot. Might save you $150.

Save another $50 on that re-do rods stuff. You can deburr and polish them at the house, to get rid of heat risers.

Re: New Rod/Piston combo.... motor is ripped down to block!

I used JE pistons on my car.

Good stuff.

You should be able to pick up a new crank for cheap

If you are going to do all that. For a little more you can just bore the block out and get a 2.4 crank and wala you have a stroker motor.

Yep not hard at all.

I'm pretty sure it's just a .020 over bore and a 2.4 crank. I found this site

Here is some info on the stroker, and at the bottom there is also another link to a page that is more in plain english for it. Explaining that you have to bore the motor out from 85mm to 87mm
