98 ram 2500 dana 60 seal problem

Bought this ram from owner,(98 2500 dana 60 posi) he had rear seal replaced
I drove it a short distance (100 mi) and seal leaked again took it back to shop that did original fix. They said they had put in wrong seal, ran vin and got what they said was correct seal, replaced no charge. I got what I paid for, it starting leaking on the way home.
What (besides they may not know what they are doing) are possible causes for leaking seal? I checked vent, OK.
I'll do it myself this time but any clues on causes to look for would be appreciated.
thanks any info.

Re: 98 ram 2500 dana 60 seal problem

Are you refering to a wheel seal, or the pinion seal?
bad pinion bearings, low pinion bearing preload, or a worn pinion flange can
all contribute to seal failure.

Re: 98 ram 2500 dana 60 seal problem

rear axle (wheel) seal, It turned out that the guy who replaced the seal never tightned the adjuster nut and left off
the nut locker.
I replaced the seal today.
Thanks for the reply.
