Air Conditioning 93 Tercel..Upgrading?

I have a 93 Tercel with old style AC in that shops won't charge it.
The unit works fine, but needs a little freon. Is there any way to charge them
these days?

If not, would I simply need to pull a compressor off a newer car from a junk yard or are the systems drastically different where they won't intermingle?

Trying to get cool without spending too much.

See if you can find a product called Freeze 12. It can be used in both A/C systems. I have it in my 92 Tercel and 95 Camry and it works great. It is not as expensive as R-12. The best thing about it is you can add a little to either system without having to change anything out.

the a/c guys in the new orleans area will charge the old system, but it cost alot. my 92 paseo had the system converted around 8 years ago. i,ve been told many times that converting is a risky deal. my a/c blows cool, but not really cold. i just bought the car a few months ago and the first thing i did was have the windows tinted.my a/c works better on the freeway. in city driving it don,t put out too good.
