Angry 05 Tranny Troubles

Just recently, our 05's tranny has been acting up. It works just fine when you're driving and the shifts couldn't be better, but when you shift it into reverse, there is a delay (I'd say between 3-5 seconds) and then it clunks and goes into gear. Then, when you shift from reverse to drive, it shifts at normal speed, but clunks. To make things more complicated, sometimes it won't clunk, but shift smoothly. When I say "clunk" I mean an audible sound from the transmission and rear differential - also can be felt with a jerk of the car. This thing has only 33,000 miles on it and should not be having transmission problems yet! I haven't been to the dealer yet, but intend to soon, as there are other problems - see "above back windshield" thread. It's an 05 tb ext v8 w/DOD.

Re: 05 Tranny Troubles

Could be a bad universal joint on the rear of the driveshaft? Hard to say. I'd get it to the dealer ASAP as you only have 3Kmi of warranty left.

Re: 05 Tranny Troubles

I recently had the same trouble with my 05. I have 29k miles on it and no problems until the 'clunk'. Whenever I shifted from reverse into drive, ther was a delay and a 'clunk' as if it was mechanically slamming into gear.

I took it in for service and the rep actually told me a delay was normal for this vehicle. I asked to drive other TB's on the lot and listen for 'clunks'. Needless to say he wasn't very helpful. The supervisor, however, assured me they would do what it takes to make sure I was satisfied. I made an appointment to return after the weekend.

Turns out there was no need. They had re-filled the tranny fluid and driving through the weekend worked it through. No more clunk. If it returns I'll let you know, and take it back with determination.
