PrBLM with 3rd Gear

I have a 1992 civic si, and for some time now, everytime I try to get into third gear, my gears grind like crazy, that some times I feel sorry for the gears and I'm scared to push it into third gear, but when the car is cold like early morning starts the gear doesn't grind in third gear OOH yeah also when I'm about to switch to third gear, and I wait for the RPM to drop down to idle and then switch gears to third it won't grind ?

I was wondering if anyone else had that problem and is there a way to fix the problem ?

Am I going to be looking into a rebuilt tranny or can the problem just be fixed ? How much $$ are we talking about ? And also can one of those tranny treatments (oil) work ?

If you keep driving it you're going to mess it up even more. Those "tranny treatments" are a joke, just like fuel treatments. The damage you're describing is severe, and even if those treatments worked, you'd be putting a band-aid over a gaping wound. The sooner you get a professional to take a look, the better chance you have of only replacing a synchro or something else minor, instead of rebuilding the whole thing. Get it to a qualified mechanic as soon as possible.

yeah sounds like a synchro to me also, but take it to a tranny specialist not just any mechanic, cuz the specialist if he is honest will charge you for whats wrong, while the mechanic will charge you up the ass for everything, but shop around.

Depending on the cost to repair it keep in ming that a junkyard tranny may be cheaper.

ok been there done that bad news ...... honda ... 1100 dollars to fix that gear ... good news you can go around it ... right before you go to shift to 3rd ... shift to 4th half way then back up to 3rd ... it will take that grinding away hopefully ... if yer like me then it kills yer street racing but hey i would rather drive my car around w/o racing than have no trans ... also its probably called your 2nd gear ... something about the syncros in there ... at least thats what they told me
