Help...?

First of all.... WOW what a PITA dropping a motor in a car alone.... :22yikes:
Anyways, lol... I was dropping my crate motor in today and since I don't have a temp sending unit for the dash, I need a plug for the hole. I tried everything to get the old one out of the 305, even an impact, but all i got was a stripped out allen hole. I was looking around online and I can't seem to figure out what that plug is called. Thing is, I would like to get this finished this weekend, but I don't know if Napa will even have one of these things. Oh yeah, and somehow my headers got moved back like 1/4" and I can't pull them back up to the block, anyone have any tips on getting them back up where they belong? Thanks!

Re: Help...?

Look at your exhaust, make sure its not hung up on anything, if it moves freely use a jack and slowly lift your headers up. I had to do this with a 73 camaro that kept eating the exhaust gasket. As for the plug, thats exactly what it is. I had to remove one with an easy out, make sure you don't break it off in there or you will need a torch to get it out. Once it is out, make sure the threads are clean before you put the sensor in. Good luck, stripped parts are a bitch.

Re: Help...?

Just plug it with a sending unit, they're $8 then if you do decide to put a temp gauge in later on (wise idea) just plug in and go

The real problem is you can't just stuff a bolt in there becasue the thread is tappered. AND, it's tappered for the purpose of not requiring any sealant on the threads, which someone probably put on it and why you can't get it out.

Re: Help...?

No, alot of people just think they need to put thread selaer or teflon on it since it's a wet plug.

Re: Help...?

My point exactly.... they should know that they don't need thread sealer on there. That's what you pay them for... THAT'S IT. NOW I'M GETTING MAD AGAIN. BASTARDS. I AM HEREBY BOYCOTTING ALL MECHANICS (with the exception of getting vehicles inspected) FROM THIS DAY FORWARD. IF I'M GONNA PAY SOMEONE TO NOT KNOW SOMETHING... I'LL PAY MYSELF.

Re: Help...?

i thought i was, but now that I think of it i'm not, I didn't even put that sending unit in, since I control my fan with a switch. I used thread sealer on the knock sensor tho. is that wrong?

Re: Help...?

A teeny dab wouldn't be a bad idea since knock sensors don't need frequent replacements like the temp sending unit and fan switch do after being exposed to hot liquid all the time. But they should also be tappered as well.
