B18C OBD1 codes?

Hi,
I purchase a 89 civic with a b18c in it, with what I found out later was an obd0 ECU and the distributor too!

I swaped the distributor because the bearing failed(what a surprise) but once I replace it. The car ran fine for 2 min. then It started chocking and the "check engine" light came up

Does any one here has some advice on how I can read the codes?

thanx

Vic

Re: B18C OBD1 codes?

Ok, your problem is this...

You are running an obd1 computer so you don't have the blinking LED to check the codes. And you have an OBD0 car, so you don't have the service connector to be able to jump it and watch your CEL blink right?

If that is what you mean...then here's the solution. Take pin D4 (OBD1 service connector wire) and ground it. You can do this by unpinning it and grounding it. Or you can just tap a wire into it and ground it that way. This will make the CEL on your dash blink like it was an OBD1 vehicle.

no crap. But he IS running an OBD1 computer. OBD1 is better for tuning purposes.

Re: B18C OBD1 codes?

I have a PR3 ECU and I think that's a OBD0 computer, I also notice that the Distributor It's not what it came with the engine!

Did I mention that I purchase this car with the engine already installed?

I went to the people that did the swap, and they wouldn't admit that they backdated the system to an OBD0. Although I did notice that they reuse the single wire Oxygen sensor compared to the 4 wire OS thats supposed to be with the OBD1 system!!!

thanx guys............

They made a few OBD1 PR3's too...but since you are using a one wire o2 sensor, i would say you def. have an OBD0 PR3 computer. That means you MUST use an OBD0 distributor for the car to run. Just count the blinks on your ecu to read your codes. At first you said you had an obd1 setup. There's nothing wrong with the way they set it up.

Re: B18C OBD1 codes?

to read the codes take the plate off the ecu look at the little led light it is red. start the car. the light will blink. long blinks are a value of ten. short blinks are a value of 1. then go to google and type in honda cpu codes all the codes you coulod ever need will pop up. print them all off and save them for the next time your poping codes.

Re: B18C OBD1 codes?
