ABS and Check Tire Pressure won't go off.

Hello,
I recently got a new set of tires on my 97 Grand Prix. Just a few days afterwards I got a flat tire so I pulled off the road and put on the little mini spare. It was a little low as I hadn’t used it in years.
As I headed back to the tire shop my ABS and Check Tire Pressure light came on together. I didn’t think too much about it since I had that little tire on the car.

After I got the tire fixed and replaced the lights remained on so I hit the reset button under the dash several times
It had no effect so when I got home I disconnected the positive battery cable; hit the reset button a few more times but still the lights continue to come on together shortly after the car started up.
I would say they come on within 2 minutes after the car has been running.
I know the air pressure is good on all 4 tires.
Any ideas as to why these lights won’t go off?
Regards,
Tplayer

How long are you holding the reset button. Mine has to be held for 3-5 seconds.

I think I'm holding it at least that long or maybe even a little longer.
Should the lights go off right after you press the reset button or after you restart the car?

when you reset the tire pressure by holding the yellow button under the drvers side dash your telling your pcm that this is tire pressure for the tires and the pcm will accept that as how much air is in the tire. if there is any detection in loss of air from any tire the check tire pressure will come on. if you hold that button down for 3-5 seconds and then let it go it should blink 3 times or so to indicate that the new tire pressure has been accepted.
as far as the abs light i dont know why that came on but maybe you should try disconnecting the negative connect from your battery and leave it off for 2 mins to see what happens. good luck.

Looks like I'm going to have to have it scanned. Ive done everything I know how to do on my own.

Re: ABS and Check Tire Pressure won't go off.

Did anyone figure this one out yet? I just got the same problem but not because of a flat. I jumped on the interstate and shot up the ramp, as I merged on my steering tightened up and my pressure and abs lights came on. They are still on and the pressure reset no longer resets it. I disconnected both batteries and left them unhooked for about 30 minutes and it did no good. I believe the 97 gtp had the speed sensing steering so it must all be caused by the same thing. I am gonna get it on a lift to check the abs wires but I don't know what else it could be. If anyone has an idea let me know please.

Ok well figured it out. Check your abs connections at the wheel. Mine is a connection that came apart. Apparrantly the Napa axle I put in has gone defective. I have grease all over the the place and that connector is disconnected. Axle is exactly 45 days old and defective already. Anyway check your connectors chances are when you had the flat or when they replaced your tires one got disconnected.

Glad you figured it out. Just for reference, the low tire indicator uses wheel speed to determine a low tire. There is no actual tire pressure monitor. A low tire rotates slower than a fully inflated tire. That's why both the ABS and low tire indicators came on when that harness was disconnected.
