Flat spot on tire????

I Noticed one day while leaving the garage what seemed to be a flat spot on my front tire. Tire shop said it is probably a tie rod or ball joint? My tire also has excessive wear on the outside. Any ideas????

The alignment shop should be able to tell you what is wrong and their diagnosis is probably correct,but I don't think it is the tie rods, although the struts could be bad causing a lot of the problem with the tires. Have them check everything and don't let them replace anything without your permission.
