Resistor...

What load resistor do i need to soder in to these indiglos to make them stop hummin? ahhhhhh.....

it humms? where are running the power lines? it increases with rpms?

it doesn't really hum it squeals. only on the blue setting though. doesn't increase with acceleration. instructions said to install a resistor, but i'm not sure what load capacity. wires are hooked up to factory dimmer switch and i'm not sure what else to do...

A resistor won't stop the problem. The humming is created by the transformer used to create the glow. Most indiglows need a higher voltage (like glass tube neons) to produce a color other than white. When you change colors, you change the amount of work the transformer has to do to make the color. Because blue is closer to the end of the color spectrum, it requires more voltage to produce. I would guess that your other setting is green? If you can tell me who made your indiglows or take (or find) a picture of what they look like with the wiring, I can help you dampen the sound but not get rid of it completely. How long have you had them and where did you get them?

All right. I'm going to have you set up the wiring so that your no longer on the factory dimmer. What you need to do is put both the red and red/black striped wire together. Splice open the wire for the parklights that comes after the switch. This wire should be red with a green stripe. Leave your black wire gounded straight to the chassis. If the aftermarket dimmer is permantly attached to the wiring for the indiglows then you need to mount it somewhere accesible but not in the way. I used an open slot where the power mirror control usualy is. Most people mount under the dash. If it isn't hooked up permantly then you need to consult your manual and see how it recommends attaching it. Lastly, if your manual suggest a wiring method other than using the factory dimmer, that is similar to mine, forget everything I have told you and follow the manual. The reason I'm having you hook up both red wires is because most circuits like this use a constant source of power and a toggled source to activate the circuit. The reason for the constant power would be to warm up the transformer before it was used. Because I don't know which wire is used for the constant (although if I had to guess I would say it was the solid red) then this method of wiring will ensure that your indiglows come on. You may notice a slight pause between when you turn on your park lights and when the indiglows come on. This is normal for this wiring setup. Once your indiglows are on, adjust the aftermarket dimmer so that the hum dampens so that it isn't as annoying. It won't go completely away. That's the downside to having indiglows.

Once again, if the manual suggests a different method of wiring without using the factory dimmer, please follow that method because there is no gaurentee that my method is 100% solid. Untill I know who makes your indiglows and I can look at an online manual, I can't suggest any better methods.
