Ram reliability

Hi All,

I'm going to be buying a new 06 truck in the next couple weeks and my decision is between a Ram and a Tundra. I just want to make the best decision and thought that some previous owners like yourselves could share your thoughts with me. Would you buy Dodge again? Reliability is really important to me and would like my truck to last at least 150k miles.

I'm looking at getting a Hemi but would also consider a 4.7L if it isn't underpowered. Do Hemi engines have a good track record? I don't plan on towing anything, just occasional hauling on weekends at most.

Thanks all for any opinions or experiences you can share with me!

Ryan

Re: Ram reliability

I've got an 05 Ram Hemi 4x4. I highly recommend the Ram and the Hemi. Take a look at http://www.dodgeforum.com and see the comments about the Ram, there's lots there to look at. I get good gas mileage when I keep my foot out of it and on hwy about 20 mpg cruising at 70. The 06's have the MDS so you'll do better. One thing though, there is a lot of regular maintenance to do: plugs every 30k (16 of them) and changing differential fluid every 15k. None of this is hard to do yourself, there's just always something. The 4.7 guys are happy with their trucks but most wish they had the hemi. The Ram is an absolute blast and I'm glad I got it. Good luck, I'm glad to answer any questions.

Re: Ram reliability

Hey jr, thanks a lot for your input! I will check out the Dodge forum that you suggested.

I'm planning on buying a 4X2 model so would changing the differential fluid every 15k apply to me?

Re: Ram reliability

I haven't met anyone who liked the 4.7l in a RAM 4x4. They complained that there isn't enough power and the trans has to shift out of OD a lot to maintain highway speed.

No. I don't think that applies to anyone.
