Slow boy racing limited slip differential (LSD)

Okay i recently came accross this
http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1241&

Its a limited slip differential from Slow boy racing. Its only an amazing $188! I can't belive it. I know slow boy is a reputable place too right?

I was wondering if this would be any good for my GS-T? How much do you think it would be to install? I know i coudln't pull my tranny and i wouldn't even want to try.

any input would be great

Great, I have also been looking at it, but I don't think it will handle the power I intend to put into it. I would love to hear what you think of it.

Re: Slow boy racing limited slip differential (LSD)

From what I can tell, its going to act more like a spool than a limited slip.

Re: Slow boy racing limited slip differential (LSD)

What is the advantages and disadvantages between a spool and true LSD?

Im really interested to know because I want to throw in something before my cars boosted.

Re: Slow boy racing limited slip differential (LSD)

A spool will not allow your wheels to operate independantly. For example, when you go around a corner, stock or LSD, the out side wheel will be spinning faster than the inside one. With a spool, they will be forced to rotate at the same RPM's so turning (especially on asphalt) is very hard. In effect, a spool is a hard core LSD. Spools are virtually unstreetable, unless you have a purpose built <10 second car, I would definately advise against them.

The only thing I have heard about the SBR LSD is that its not a true LSD, I've never heard positive or negatives. However, I think SBR is a good reputable name and I would go for it if I had a FWD.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to get an lsd before I go turbo, I guess I will have to check into the SBR. I know quofie and kaaz makes lsd's for my car but they will probably be expensive. I read a good review on someone's website that did a 4g64 buildup and they said that the B&M Phantom grip is pretty good. I dont know.

Re: Slow boy racing limited slip differential (LSD)

Isn't that kind of like having a part-time 4WD truck with a locking diff? If that's true then it seems like this would be very hard on your car. When you tried to turn, the wheels wouldn't be able to turn at different speeds. Here's some helpful info on diffs that explains this. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

Re: Slow boy racing limited slip differential (LSD)

I think this one is intended to work the same as the automatic lockers the 4x4 guys use. "The locker stays locked under most situations, but under low-torque application, allows one wheel or the other to be disconnected from the driveshaft, thus allowing for differential action. When enough torque is applied, the locker engages solidly and regardless of the conditions, you keep moving. The disadvantages are that it can lock and drag tires around a turn."

WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!!!!

man this thing is awesome. I can feel my car pull forward now instead of going sideways on a launch. dont get me wrong i dont know what a real lsd feels like but damn i think this thing is pretty damn close.
