This is a longshot....but

Before I even ask this question, I realize how much of a longshot it is that I will get the answer to my question. It is worth a try though.

Here is my problem.
I am now the proud owner of a 1995 BMW 318is.
It appears that the first owner of this car put in an Alpine remote entry and alarm system. If it helps, it is the 3026a.
(I say the first owner because the 2nd owner did not do it)

I have 1 remote for this car's system.
I also have 2 remotes that need to be programmed.
According to Alpine, the only way to program these remotes is to physically plug their chips into the brain of the security system.

And there is the problem...where is the brain at?
The previous owners said they never could find it.
I am not seeing it under the hood.
I pulled the side molding on both sides of the trunk walls. I did find some sort of strange box on the gas tank side wall...above the battery. I do not know what it is but it did not say Alpine and did say BMW so I am guessing that it is not it.
The last owner put a stereo in the car. Therefore, I do not see how he could have missed the brain if it was under the dash.
I have pulled out the back seat...no go there.
I am starting to be at a loss.

I am hoping that somebody with some experience in this might have an educated guess as to where this alarm brain might be.

Thanks
