changing instrument cluster

I got a used instrument cluster from a local junk yard. The mileage on it is 25000mi. Mine in my truck is at 80000 where can i get the mileage corrected? I can no longer read the odometer but i know that it is around 80000. Or is the mileage stored else were in the trucks computer? it is on a 99 silverado. thanks all

Re: changing instrument cluster

You will have to send it off somewhere to have it reprogrammed. I know the dealer can tell you where. Do a google search for instrument cluster reprogramming. I know theres a place in Fla.

Re: changing instrument cluster

The computer in the truck does store the mileage, I don't know if any scan tool will tell you that or if just the dealer can.

Re: changing instrument cluster

Its also stored in the cluster as well. If you swap, the mileage will show whatever it was in the last vehicle.

Re: changing instrument cluster

Trust me on this one. The mileage is ONLY stored in the cluster. If any one says different, Get them to show you. It IS not stored in the computer.
