How should he of got the power window strip off the arm rest?
A mechanic needed to take off the Power Window Strip (The thing that has the window Up/Down that is in the armrest). He stuck a screw driver down one end and pried up. After he got the strip up, we could see there was a tab that stuck out the end. Well, it broke. Now it works it's way up very quickly and I have to constantly push one end down.
I am wondering how he should of removed it so the tab on the end would of not broke? Anyone ever taken one off the "right way?" How did you do it? (1997) Thank you, Chris. |

I'm with stuzman on this one. A small flat head screwdriver is the right tool to use, and it should be done gently because the plastic is extremely brittle. The tab to remove the plate is the in the side facing the front of the car. When I got my PA (which has basically the same interior parts as the LeSabre) I had the same problem also, one of the tabs had been broken and the switch plate would lift out. I had to use some thick epoxy to keep it in place.

He tried really hard on the back end and it wouldn't come up. When he pried on the front end it came up very easy and broke.

stuzman is right on the money. Remember to use as thin a screwdriver as possible, and apply almost no force. I get mine off with any key on my keychain, and usually just pushing it down between the module and the door and pulling both key and module up at the same time is enough, no need to pry back or forth (which is probably what your mechanic did when he snapped it).
