mazda rx7 fire

if a mazda rx7 1988 was flooded and after three days of trying still didnt work would fuel gather in the exhaust and ignite when car eventually started, i find this hard to believe but is there any likely hood that this might happen ,in the middle of a dispute any info would be most helpful

Re: mazda rx7 fire

well considering gas dryes pretty fast, after 3 days...no def not, but if the engine if flooded then yes it bay throw a fire ball, caz the gas in the engine will stay untill properly released, and when u get in there and start pumpin the gas and turnin the key all your doing is pourin more gas into the already flooded engine. but i wouldnt be surprised if it threw a fire ball at start-up

forgot to mention ignition was on but didnt turn the key to start had the car towed then it eventually went and a flame came out from under the right side of the car after two minutes with smoke billowing out from under the bonnet would this have caused the same outcome

Re: mazda rx7 fire

thats really wierd, maybe your injectors were leaking and extra fuel got ignited by the hot exhaust?

i cant really say cause thats a strange situation

Re: mazda rx7 fire

so there might have been a leaky injector somewhere, would wiring cause the fire as the last owner had wired door speakers to the window switch and mirrors put an alarm system on,i also noticed that fuses were the wrong way round in the engine bay and behind the radio was about 18 wires going nowhere. when i looked at the car after the fire the engine is a bit sooty but not burnt much and the plugs are still sitting in the side of the engine not even touched surely if the engine had caught fire then it would have melted somewhat as it is an alluminium engine isnt it it had been burning for nearly half an hour

Re: mazda rx7 fire

Very possible. These things are known for electrical gremilns.

I had an '86 that had an under hood elec. fire.

Re: mazda rx7 fire

I just replaced the cats on my fb, and I poured about a quart of gas out them. I hadn't tried to start it for a week. I am having the same problem with starting as you. Maybe gas collected in your cats and they had a large hole or something, so when they heated up they actually ignited instead of slowly burning, as would normally happen with a sealed cat.
