420A variants???
Hey, I have just purchased a '97 Eclipse RS... with the 420A motor... my intake comes out on the right side... a friend of mine claims to have the same motor in his Eclipse, but the intake comes out on the opposite side... is this a variant? or does he have another engine???

Nope. Only 1 420a. The intake will always be coming from the back towards to the front drivers side. Any other engine in the Eclipse/Talon, will have the intake on the other side

ok, thanks... I'm almost certain he has a 4g63 (not turbo)... I haven't actually seen his motor, but the pics I found will help me tell...

unless you were to do a neon engine swap. I dont know why you would want to but I have seen it done

well, if the motor blew... and you found the neon 420 cheap... ya know... or wanted it to have just a little touch of uniqueness... to my knowledge, they have the same hp...right?

the neon is rated at 145hp and the eclipse at 140hp BTW is your buddys car a 1g or 2g?

The only Eclipse to have the intake on the drivers side is the 420a, all the rest (4g63 (turbo or nt, 4g64) has it on the passenger side.

A 420a is a 420a, I dont think there is any difference between the neon 420a and the eclipse 420a.

Same here. As far as I know, they are the EXACT same motor as in the Neon R/T. The base Neons had a SOHC engine. I'm guessing the other guy has a 1g with the N/T 4g63.

there are slight differences ie the motor is flipped and it has been given new manifolds all around and I guess with those combos it gives it an extra 5hp. One of my buddys is a HUGE neon guy. Hes had 4 neons, 2 of them r/ts

well his first one was nitro yellow green, aka something a baby threw up after eating peas. his second one was pretty nice...for a neon, it was a 02 black r/t 4 door and it was boosted and pretty quick. His third one however has a 99 r/t with a built 420a running a gt35r 42# injectors and a fmic that was 10x4x30 and it was slow as hell
