Axle shaft seal leaks

I have a 2000 GP GT which just had both axle shaftes changed out as they were leaking grease out of the boot. Since this has been done the passenger side axle shaft seal in the tranmission is leaking fluid. My mechanic has changed this axle shaft twice and the seal three times over the last couple of weeks and it continues to leak. Does anyone have any suggestions besides sell the car, are there any secrets to installing this seal ? Should he be using a GM seal instead of a parts house brand, he says they're the same ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've seen reman axles where the surface the seal rides has been turned down too small and won't seal. Have the mechanic measure the inner joint where the seal rides with a micrometer and compare it to OEM spec. If your Axles are remanufactured by CCT, I'd bet that's your problem, as that brand is CRAP.

My mechanic compared the reman to a new OEM shaft and they were same dia. within a .001. We also tried 2 different rem shafts and we have the same leak.

Since that checks out, the output shaft bearing/bushing in the transaxle was probably damaged when the other axle failed. It's allowing too much lateral play (possibly only under load) and causing the shaft to wobble causing your leak.

There are two seals on the passenger side of the axle shaft housing that can cause the problem on a 4T65E tranny. The final drive housing to case seal or the right axle oil seal assembly.

Changing the bushing is my next action as well as replacing housing seal and axle shaft seal again. I'll let you know what happens.

Those bushings go bad a lot. I would definitely check that then replace seal and check for cracks in the extension housing do to a bad diff. 84K on mine and the bushing had notable wear. On the old 4T60E GM used to line boar the bushing never seen problems now GM has gotten cheap and it shows

Can't buy bushing by itself have to buy new housing that comes with bushing installed as well as both seals. Cost is $135. list also its special order. I guess I can't complain to much as the car has 145,000 miles on it. Looks like I'll being ordering it next week.

The bushing and extension housing seal are available through transtar or axiom. 3 bucks each or so plus shipping they should sell you one I don’t know why the wouldn't. When he installs the new bushing just make sure he marks where the oil grooves are and installs it the same way.
