Head-light not working ???

Hi
I've got a 1.8 diesel escort van 1998. The other day I noticed a headlight bulb had blown. So I bought a new bulb, did not work after I replaced it. Checked the fuses and they had not blown. The main beam works on both sides but theres only 1 headlight working. Tried the new bulb in the other side and it works on normal and main beam, so it's not the bulb. Any ideas

Thanks

Re: Head-light not working ???

Need to check to see if you are getting power to the plug.
Need to check the ground to make sure it is properly connected.

Both main beams operate from the same wiring. By the same token, both headlights again operate from the same wiring. You could run a wire from the side that the headlilghts work to the other side where they do not. My diagram shows that the same wire controls both sides. You will just be bypassing a broken wire by doing it this way.. It's possible the earth (we call it the ground over here) isn't making a good connection as KimMG has said.

Re: Head-light not working ???

Thanks for the reply's.

No power going to the plug KimMG
If I connect the other headlight to the one not working, not that double the resitance on the wires thus makng them hot and may be catch fire......
Just a thought, but I realize where your coming from, with that idea Davescort97

The only thing I've done in the engine bay recently is jet wash it to clean it. You don't think twice coz it's a diesel, no miss fire probs etc.

Also where are all the relays for the lights. I know where the fuses are and the big fuses near the battery in the engine bay, but don't know where the realys are kept

cheers
