Brake problem

93 del Sol S. The car till recently ran huge wheels with low profile tires. It's my buddies car - he was complaining about noise when he was braking. I pulled off the wheels and the new rotors and pads (honda stock) had gotten cocked - it seemed - only the outside of the rotor was torn up. New rotors, pads and calipers and it looks like the problem is still happening.

I think it could be wheel bearings. Could the massive wheels have torn up the front wheel bearings? Suggestions ?

Re: Brake problem

very easily.. see my post in the suspension thread about the wear and tear that large wheels place on a stock suspension.. the suspension components are not made to withstand the centrifugal force of 40lbs of wheel on each corner.

Re: Brake problem

Ive always thought that was true. But to fix this problem... what sus. peices are more apt to being bent and destroyed? When the rotors wear on the outside only like they are, are the wheel bearings a good place to start?

Re: Brake problem

Make sure the calipers retact smoothly and that the sliders aren't hung up. Sticky sliders give me all kinds of troble on all kinds of cars at work. Sometimes the calipers get cocked in the brakets, too, and raise all kinds a' hell.

Re: Brake problem

Another thought, make sure there's no rust & junk between the hub & the rotor. the rotor has to bolt up nice and flush. If this is the problem just wirebrush the hell out of the mounting surface of the hub.
