HKS Genki D1 Altezza

Hello...here's my third build for 2006 and second kitbashed HKS car.

Base kit: Aoshima Altezza
Tamiya "HKS" Group A R32 Skyline Decals
Aoshima HKS Genki D1 S15 Silvia decals
WRC Subaru Impreza wheels
WRC Subaru Impreza Roll cage
GT wing
Aoshima Bride racing seats w/Studio 27 PE seatbelt harness
Tamiya SARD Supra front and rear fenders
Scratch-built interior, exhaust, wheel spacers
Testors classic black paint and ultra clear gloss

When I first saw this car in a magazine I thought it looked horrible, now I like it. Overall this was a fun build, until I had to apply the decals.

What do you think?

I think it's incredible! The decal work alone is enough to scare me away from attempting anything close! You've done an excellent job!!

Re: HKS Genki D1 Altezza

Wow!

At first I just looked the pictures and thought "where could I buy this kit?". Then I read the specs and I was very suprised: You've basicly built the car from a scratch! It looks superb and very realistic! Cool!

Re: HKS Genki D1 Altezza

I was about to say wow finally someone has released this Altezza. Perfectly executed model.I can relate regarding the decal application since i built the Tamiya HKS Skyline a few years ago you did a fine job of it. Well done.

Re: HKS Genki D1 Altezza

Thanks for the feedback!
About the decals....pain in the rear. It's actually about 2 or 3 layers, so I had to pay close attention making sure I didn't leave any air bubbles.

The wheel spacers I mentioned were made with plastic styrene and placed between the brakes and wheel hub/shock assembly. Then a pin vice was used to drill the hole for the Tamiya wheel. I also trimmed the inner fender for wheel clearance.

This is another one my "fantasy builds" meaning combining multiple kits I wish existed, and making my own.

Re: HKS Genki D1 Altezza

Nice work bringing it all together spoonman, you have a winner there. If I could only combine some decals for my Altezza, I might progress a bit more on it.
