97 Cav Probs, Please Help

This might be 2 seperate problems, but i think they are related.

First, when I go over 45 mph, it makes a loud humming noise, sounds like it is coming from my tires. Friend said maybe wheel bearing. Tires are not to old and not low.

Second, when I hit my brakes, about every other time it will make a rattling sound.

Any help is useful, thanks.

The rumbling at a high speed is one of a few things, something in your rims ex: snow, mud, etc. Or, it could be your wheel alignment which I just had done and it fixed it right up, OR it could be your wheel bearing(s). Is is coming from a specific side or just from the front from what you can hear?

Check if your allignment is off, find a flat straight road and preferably a non-windy day, and straighten the wheel and let go. If it veers off to any side then the alignment is off and that could be it. I still have a good feeling its one of your wheel bearings or both. Get them checked/replaced and see if that helps. Do you have mags or just steelies for rims? Make sure they're not bent.

Sounds like it is most likely a wheel bearing. to check your bearings jack the car up and grab the wheel on both sides and try moving it(dont be too gentle), if you feel it move around then you need to replace the bearing.

If you know how to do it yourself its very cheap, but for some reason its pricey to get done. I got quoted like 180 canadian. so around 140-150 us?

Re: 97 Cav Probs, Please Help

I recently had 2 wheel bearings replaced, one at the shop for about $350 can parts and labour and another I did myself ~$100 can.
