Steering concern....
I have a 1998 Windstar. When driving I noticed a slight hitch in the steering. It is fine turning the wheel to the left, but when turning to the right I have to apply a little extra pressure to turn the wheel past center to the right. It is almost like a rough spot in the turning just to the right of center.
I have good tires and have them rotated regularly. Any ideas? Is it a warning sign to something more serious? Any help would be greatly appreciated. mptc |

Re: Steering concern....
Although this post is a couple of years old it accurately describes the steering problem I have noticed in my '98 as well. My '98 has new tie rod ends, etc.
There were no replies to the original post. Ideas anyone? |

Re: Steering concern....
Make sure the steering rack mount bushings are in good shape.
Normally, the steering rack will wear the most right in the "middle" ... so if you have a high mileage unit, you may have to change out the rack. Other steering/suspension components can cause this symptom also. For examples: the bearing block on top of strut unit, the lower support/control arm, etc, etc. ??? |
