SR20DET with few goodies or K24DET with lots of goodies?
ok so im looking into building an s13. keep in a daily driving car and have fun with it. im just a beginer into Nissans. so i see lots of people with SR20's they'r all cool and get respect for gettin rid of the KA motor, but i also see very respectable KA's that make decent power and are reliable. now my question is, should i buy and silvia front clip for 2800$ and put about 2-3g's in the motor, or should i go KA24 and put a good turbo and have more money to play around with, i see lots of people on here that are very knowlegeble, i just want some1 that been trough all that to tell me go with and sr20det because...... or to with an ka24det beacuse, and which one will be the one you would choose. i want some facts.

honestly for me it would be a toss up someday id love to have a ka-t i have a sr now and wouldnt mind owning both someday. there isnt exactly a right answer here. only problem i see w/ a ka is yuor going to blow your engine if you dont get the timing and compression right which a lot of people tend to do. but thats just because they fucked up not the engines fault. either one is a good choice

you see, im not planing to go with major hp, ofcourse, i will take it tune the car up, have the compression and everything done, i might do some internal work, but i have no clue what i would need to do for 300-400 hp.
i dont want to go sr20det and not have lots of money left to built it up. and then not lots of HP. but if the KA24det would be good and i could get more power for the money for the time being, i might go that route. you see ask me me somtin about a honda, ill tell what you need to have it done. but on nissans, i have no clue to tell you the truth. any expertise advice from you guys would be good. |

You dont have to build an sr20det up really. Some one correct me if I am wrong but it will handle 20 pounds just fine and I doubt anyone would be running more on pump gas.

so your talking about droppin what like 4k or so either way you go? if thats the case and i had a strong manual ka then id go ka. i went sr because my ka was going down hill and it was a auto so i figured hell ill just go sr i have no regrets though i think id be happy either way but i do like my higher revs

Hmmm. higher revs' that somtin i love too. 4 grand in the begining then keep dropin another 3-4 in about 1 year

Redrain, i think your exagerating, from what i've been reading going safe, 14 is safe. more its pretty dangerous. corect me if im wrong.

depends no more then 14 on a red top i know. well 15 maybe for track day i run 11 daily

you'd need quite a bit to up the boost to 20lbs on a stock sr.. just to get to 10-12 you'll need a fmic and a turbo upgrade would help.. i don't know enough about the sr to give details but 20lbs on a stock sr wouln't last long..

Theres alot of info out there for sr's and ka's. I'm not a pro builder or anything, but I think its just up to you. I'm building a ka-t for this summer and with the $$ i'm saving from not doing to sr swap i'm going to put into rods and pistons etc. Check out enjuku racing for sr swaps and stuff, for ka-t check out www.ka-t.org. That will give you some idea of what you can get out of the ka. Just my
