How to change shocks on 94 Grand Prix

Folks I am new to this forum and I need your help. I am trying to help my 18 year old nephew who worked a year to buy a 1994 Grand Prix and believe me it is worn out. The front disk brakes were metal to metal and I installed new brake pads for him after having the drums turned. He took it in today to have the front end aligned and they told him that his rear suspension was shot. Everytime you go over a small bump it feels like it bottoms out in the rear. I told my nephew I would try and help him put shocks on the rear end but have never done this. Can someone please tell me what is involved in changing out the rear shocks and tell me how to do it. Thanks in advance for any help you can give this old grandfather.

I've never done this before. This might be a better question to ask on clubgp.com

Are you a member over there? The knowledge over there is amazing. Check it out.

I have a 94 Grand Prix and it has struts all away around. You need a tool to compress struts I believe. Bought replacement struts at Sears and l let a professional do the work.

The rear struts are easy. You can buy complete units including the upper mounts for $100 each. Support the rear control arm with a jack to take the spring tension off, unbolt the top mount from through the trunk, take off the two lower mount bolts and it's in your hand. The only thing you'll have to do is take it in and have an alignment done, as these cars require a 4-wheel alignment.
