Re: 800hp n/a small block
I dont believe it either but there is a kid where I live that has a 80 malibu and he claims that he has a "build race small block" that is pushing 800 to the wheels with 8" slicks and he wants to race my talon so I was just wondering if that was possible or not

He's full of it unless he has a fortune. He might be pushed alot but nowhere near 800

Re: 800hp n/a small block
well first off you said kid, so that threw the big bs flag, no parent, not even a half brain dead one would give any kid, anywhere anything with anywhere near 800 horses... i would beleve crank hp on pump gas to 350ish possibly 4, and MABY up to 6 on 130/160 octain racin gas, i think 6 is a big push for it though... just on a footnote, you can get a 4.3l v6 up close to a grand for horses, if you port it out and put alcohal in it, and here in michigan, wheres we dont have a probe in our tailpipe once a year, alcohal IS street legal

Re: 800hp n/a small block
well by kid I mean, well hes a kid no more than 17. he had a "build 355" in the car but it started on fire and then he gave the car to some guy who is probably mid 20s and he got a "full race small block" and put it in the car. I dont believe this kid at all and I'm not worried about it because even if he has his fabled 800whp there would be no way in hell he could ever hook up with his "8" slicks"

Re: 800hp n/a small block
ive got less then 250 horses to my s 10 wheels at the moment, and i break my 8.5'' 20's loose all the time without trying...and 'race' heads on your small block chevys are reversed, instead of going (E=exhaust, I=Intake) eiieeiie they go ieeiieei, and to run those heads you need a minimum of 110 octain, if you see him at a gas station, every, its a lie......... lets step back for just one minut here... ever go to a dirt track for races?? I do, if in case you don't, im a machanic, and a few of my buddies race late model dirt cars. These things are built with one purpous only, to go realy f***ing fast, and they, running on 110, and even the boys on alcohal, are not pushing out as many horses as this kid claims to have in his street rod. (i pushed the last perioud realy hard to end my statement with confidence)

NASCAR crews have to add 8 cubes to make that kind of power with no blower, no Viagra bottle, no whining turbo, and on race gasoline instead of top fuel. They routinely make 650 BHP with 358s through four 7/8" bores (restrictor plate), and over 750 with no plate. If they don't make that, they might as well not even load the car in the trailer. They still have class limitations, so they are not allowed to go "all out". Yeah, a guy with no lift limits, no head limits, no fuel limits, etcetera, probably couldn't find another 50 HP in the heads and valve train. No way. Whatever you say... |

Re: 800hp n/a small block
800 at the wheels? Now THAT I doubt. The original post didn't specifty that. 800 BHP is very possible N/A, given the right builder. On pump gas? I doubt that, too.
Then again, I've been wrong plenty of times before. |

I dont think you are this time though ...... except for the 8 cubic inches to make the power .. they would drop maybe 16- 20 HP on a 350 cid ... 358 cid is just the max limit. |

Re: 800hp n/a small block
ok I talked to another person and I guess this 80 malibu has a ptm 350 raceblock and hes putting down 700whp on pump gas. He also said the motor alone cost $9k but I went on the ptm site and short blocks are less then $2k and heads are less than $1k and the smallest motor they build is a 355.

Re: 800hp n/a small block
a 355 is simply a sbc 350 bored (i beleved) .030'' oversize. and 700 on pump gas is stretchen it for me

Re: 800hp n/a small block
750 at the crank and 700 at the wheels, thats only a 6% drive train loss. To me that seems very low considering its an auto, but then again I'm used to the 20%+ awd drivetrain loss so I guess it may be possible.
