Stealth vs. Mustang v6

So today i was bringing my friend home from school when we spotted a white mustang that looked like the one a kid i know has. So i drove for a while to let him catch up and he finally did so we just cruised for a while until we got to a part of the road that has a 55mph speed limit and there wasnt many cars. We rolled down our windows and Kyle (driver of mustang) had a passenger too. They both had these smiles like they were about to own me and his passenger says we will go from a 55 roll. So i manually shifted my auto to second and he has manual so he shifted too so i honked three times and we were off. I jumped ahead pretty fast and had about a car length on him and we brought it up to 85 and shut down. At the end i had about 2 c/l on him. He wanted to go again so we did. 55mph and this time he just hits it out of no where so i had to play catch up. I was about 2 c/l behind cause of the jump but i gained to about even by the time we hit 100 and shut down. I gave him a wave and headed off. All i have is intake (and a 260 pound passenger) and he has intake, exhaust, chip, and headers. It was fun though, closest race I've had yet. Sorry if its a little long but thanks for reading.

Nice kill.

I always did like the looks of those Stealths/3000gt. I was thinking about getting a VR-4 with 75k miles on it, but I heard they are really unreliable... Is this true?

I dont have the twin turbo just the dohc n/a but ive heard that if you maintain them properly you can get over 200,000 miles on them. But im sure one of the tt owners form the 3/s forums will come and tell you about them.

Re: Stealth vs. Mustang v6

Yeah they aren't cheap to fix by any means but they can last very long if properly maintained as mentioned.

Nice kill TorchedStelath. What year was it? A 99+ or not?

Re: Stealth vs. Mustang v6

My former Stealth went through $8K that I had saved. It was the most unreliable car i've ever had. The 3rd gear synchro went out on it, and back then you had to replace the entire tranny in order to repair the synchro. It also had a leaking transmission (Roughly $1.5K in repairs), leaky turbo housing of some sort (Oil was coming out). It was a nightmare, but mayhaps the previous owner neglected maintaining it.

Needless to say it was traded in quickly. I believe the Acura dealership I traded it into were pretty upset afterwards.

Re: Stealth vs. Mustang v6

thats one of the worst cases i've heard
worst thing to happen to my car was a cylinder went out

after i abused the shit out of it, with 165,000 miles on it

beside that, the synchro's, that was only $550

my worst car was a 1982 nissan maxima

Re: Stealth vs. Mustang v6

That could also have been a case of abuse by its previous owner. 3S's like many other cars can be worn out due to abuse and lack of care.

Re: Stealth vs. Mustang v6

No probably not. I think the V6 stangs before 99 were like 159hp at the crank(someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Re: Stealth vs. Mustang v6

Mine has been pretty reliable. Only issues I've had were oil cooler lines started leaking after I drove it through 2 NY winters, and an elusive electrical short in an injector circuit, and a leaky BOV. Other than those issues, it's only been flat tires and bent rims from potholes (at least that's all I can remember off the top of my head) But no engine/tranny/t-case issues here.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Stealth vs. Mustang v6

Nice kill.

No idea why someone would waste the money on a 6cylinder mustang, to try and make it run like an 8. How pointless. Anywho, nice ride bro, always been a big fan of the 3kgt/stealth era
