Air Filter Info

Someone showed me this information on another board I visit...

http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

Pretty intersting information. Anyone want a K&N filter for a GM truck/SUV?

Re: Air Filter Info

that page has been around for ages but it makes total sense.. Obviously the more air let in, the more dirt your also going to let in.

Re: Air Filter Info

Haven't seen that report before, but my friends actually brought it while we were drinkin sometime ago. I actually took my K&N out back in July of '04 when I was heading on a small roadtrip to a truck show. I decided it really needed a good filter so I got one of those STP filters for a couple bucks. I actually didn't even notice a diff. I ended up never buying the cleaning stuff so I think I'll just give the filter away with the truck and the new owner can do what he pleases with it.

Re: Air Filter Info

Does anyone have a thought on how FRAM filters would rank? Would they be close to AC Delco?

Re: Air Filter Info

Now are these basic filters or high flow filters?

The K&N are good made filters. And they have a good idea on a washable reusable filter.
They may even be a little to good. The oil catches a more fine dust that will clog up the filter if it is not serviced regular.
Main problem is they need serviced more often and you need to go easy on the oil. The engine sensors do not like to drink the extra oil that gets put on a K&N filter. If you use on go easy on the oil on later modeel engines.
But the stock AC-delco air filter is hard to beat.
Either way on a air filter keep it clean with a good air filter and your engine will live longer.

Re: Air Filter Info

Well, I still have my stock filter. Does it matter if a few of the folds are bent?

If it is not dirty or sucking unfiltered air threw it or torn it it is good.
Make sure the rubber sealing part is good and remember on dusty roads or dusty driving conditions they will need changed more often.

Re: Air Filter Info

I changed back to me AC Delco, and I'm about to fill er' up, so I'll see if getting rid of the K&N does anything.
