06 Silverado Ride Height

Hi, I'm a new member to this forum and I am interested in buying a Silverado in the next couple months. I am fresh out of college and this will be my first truck I've owned.

Since I do not go off-roading much I am looking for a 2WD extended cab model but it must have a HIGH riding height. I want it to at least sit as high as the 4WD models (~ 74 inches). Do I have any options here that aren't aftermarket fixes?

I looked at a GMC Sierra crew cab 2WD with a Vortec MAX package at a dealership this past weekend and it had a very tall stance, like the 4WD models (probably 74" overall height). However, the salesman did not know why this particular 2WD vehicle had this high stance. His only explanation was that it had the Vortec MAX package installed.

The Vortec MAX package comes with a Ride Control Suspension and a 9.5 inch rear axle. Does this mean a taller stance? I'm sorry if my questions sound uneducated but as I said, I'm new to trucks and this is a new learning experience for me.

Thanks a lot for any input or help you can offer.

Ryan

Either just get the Z71, or a 2wd and throw a quality lift on it.

I have no clue on the "Max" package.

Why must it be the height of a 4wd?

Re: 06 Silverado Ride Height

I would just like the truck to be taller than I am. In my opinion a truck just looks tougher and meaner when it's sitting up high. The low stance of the 2WD Silverados just don't do them justice.

I'd hate to spend the extra 3 grand for 4WD when I won't use it. Do you know about how much money a quality lift would cost?

Re: 06 Silverado Ride Height

The new MAXX is the same package as my VHO from 04-05. The body is on a 4x4 frame using torsion bars and can easily be adjusted to raise or lower.

Click on my CARDOMAIN link and you will see what a MAXX is.

Re: 06 Silverado Ride Height

jethro that is one sweet Ride you have! I noticed that Chevy offers two similar packages. The Silverado Performance Edition and the Vortec Max Performance package. The Silverado Performance Edition is like what you have with the 20" wheels and the performance suspension. The Vortec Max Performance package comes with the manual selectable ride-control suspension. Are they the same thing or similar? Anyway, maybe I'm reading too much into this.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Installed, you're looking at $5k+. Even though I don't advise on going cheap on lifts or drops you could do some 2" springs up front to get it level and raise the front up. Or you could do a 2" springs up front and 1" or 2" shackle in the rear to give it the rake.
