Going thru oil!

I'm a newbie here so please be patient if I do anything wrong.

My mom has a 1999 Town car 281Cl 4.6 Liter. It's going through LOTS of oil. There are no leaks and no tell-tale color in the exhaust. I took it in to a respected shop last week and they said they couldn't find anything. They did not do a compression test but they said with 60,000 miles they had a hard time believing it would be that, but if I wanted to, I could bring it back and they would do it. They even called the Ford dealer to see if there were any commonly known problems.

I know that often what no one seems to now in traditional circles in common knowledge in a place like this forum. So, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what' going on?

Thanks!

Re: Going thru oil!

I don't know where it's going! It's not leaking, the exhaust looks normal and it is running fine, so it's not fouling out the plugs. But, I've got to put a quart of oil in every 300-500 miles.

try this. get the car to normal operating temperature. i would say drive it for about 3-5 miles. then, when you come to a light or stop sign, let it sit in drive for about 2 minutes (as long as no one is behind you). then hit the gas normally. check out your side view mirrors. do you see a cloud of blue smoke? these engines are known for the valve seals to seap oil into the combustion chambers. when you said your car only had 60,000 miles on it, i had a 92 crown victoria that had only 80,000 miles on it and it used to blow blue smoke only when i take off when the car sits for like 2 minutes at normal operating temperature. i also had to put a quart of oil in it every 500 miles until i found this product. try this. there is a product called Smoke Fix. it comes in a white bottle which i tend to only find at Pep Boys. drain the motor of all oil and then begin putting the new oil in. HOWEVER, do this method. pour in two quarts of motor oil, then put in the Smoke Fix, then put in the remaining two quarts. so in essence, you are replacing one quart of oil with the smoke fix (which is equivalent to one quart). after that, drive the car around for awhile and see if you are still loosing oil. let me know what happens if you try this.

Re: Going thru oil!

I personally wouldnt go with quaker state or pennzoil I had pennzoil 10w40 high mileage in my lincoln but it burned it so much so i switched to castrol syntec blend 10w40 and it hasnt burned much about 1 qt in 900-1000 miles while with the pennzoil it went through a quart in about 450-500 miles

Re: Going thru oil!

i did switch to Mobil1 10w-30 high mileage motor oil in my town car and it runs better and doesn't burn any oil any more. i used to use quaker state performace 5w-30. oh thanks for the comment cobradude. i never saw a black grand marquis on the road before but i like how the color comes out on yours!

yea i keep my lincoln really clean haha. but it's funny you mention the color because thats what everyone loves about my car: the color. i usually see ony beige town cars around my way. Mine really sticks out from the norm with chrome panels at the bottom of the doors, the green color of the car itself, and the beige cloth roof. i guess you can say i have a three tone paint job haha! but yea i can imagine black is really hard to keep clean. i use this wax called Turtle Wax Ice...$25 a bottle but wow, you put that stuff on and the car shines and after a rainy day, you can't even tell that the car was rained on.

Re: Going thru oil!

Yeah man i like that color also because it's the color of mine lol but i've never been a fan of the cloth tops, but for being a 95 with that many miles your top looks in good shape many around here are torn, stained, or just weather beaten.

yeah i don't really like the cloth roofs. they really don't do anything for me. but this one is spotless. i did have to re-sow one seem on the passenger rear door that was coming undone. not easy, but I got it done. there were a few stains on the roof itself towards the back, but with a light spray from a powerwasher and some heavy scrubbing, the roof came out like brand new. believe me, this car doesn't owe me a damn thing.

Re: Going thru oil!

Yeah that's one reason i dont like the clothtops is because they would probably get ripped up around here cats love to tap dance on my car for come reason especially after i come back from the car wash i really need to find a car cover. Another thing sreilly do people mistake your car for being blue? a couple of ppl have mistaken it for being blue when the sun is setting or when it's grey outside 5 people have told me that but i just dont see it
