Re: sound system

Anything man. I'd personally stay from really cheap brands, and I'm not a fan of Sony car audio.

Re: sound system

im not sure about 2 12in subs but right now im building a box for two 10in sub im not sure on the subs too but look for a high rms power on your subs and amp I have a 1000 watt max 460 rms kenwood amp I plan on using again for my truck before it powered 2 12in pioneer impp subwoofers (400 watts max each one) in a sealed box in the back of an old 91 caprice it sounded good to me and other people around me. one thing Im sure about is to shop around before you buy your setup

Re: sound system

First things first.

You talk about apgrading speakers; but you need a new head unit.

If you're into technology (you're posting in a forum) I'd say look for a unit that can handle MP3's. I have the Kenwood X789 and it kicks ass; I get ~ 8 albums on 1 CD.

Since you're looking at subs also; your requirements should be
~ 100W total (25x4
at least rear preouts for the subs;
front preouts if you might hook up another amp for your door speakers
Aux in for a friends MP3 player or Ipod

www.crutchfield.com is a good site to get a LOT of info and start pricing.
Their Sub info also has the box size for each sub. If you don't know; each sub needs a different size enclosure and different type. Free air/Sealed/ported/3 or 5th order bandpass etc...

before deciding on speakers; first research box types vs types of music. rock/metal wants a different box than rap/hip hop. Also be realistic with sizing. Some squeeze boxes under the rear seat; some lose even more space to have good sound quality.

If you have any more q's; please ask!!

Re: sound system

For the best output from your amp, compare the RMS ratings on both the subs you consider buying and the amp you have. Also make sure you get the right impedance (8ohm or 4 ohm) subs for your amp. I had good luck from Polk subs in the past, as well as JL Audio.

Re: sound system

hey thanks for the help. i do have a head unit. it came on the truck when i go it. and i listen to more rock and music more like that than rap, but i think if i got subs i would listen to some rap/hip hop to, but mostly rap. i went to best buy yesterday to look... do they have good stuff there? they had 2 alpine amps with i think 700 amps... and does that mean get a amp with that many or more too? i don't want to put too much $$ into this, i just want a decent system that is better than my friends =). any suggestions, i'd appreciate it. thanks again!

Re: sound system

Not having enough power is what blows speakers usually. Bigger is better.
