Re: engine swap.....

depends on alot....the LT1 would be the easiest cause it almost bolts right in...i read a article in hot rod about them doing that...they had to use the corvette accesories.. that could be done relatively cheap...............the ls1 would be a nightmare all the adapters and stuff you would have to use.... to put one in my car it would probably be in excess of 10K..

Re: engine swap.....

You once told me you love that TBI, and I heard one that was modified extremely and it sounded sick! You gotta have faith if you're gonna mod it!

I agree that the LT1/LS1 is built faster from factory so you can either buy a faster built car, than the TBI..i know, the TBI, or you can do a swap, ask drivingstorm about the LT1 swap.

Re: engine swap.....

if i was gonna attempt to put a modern powerplant in the lt1 would be at the top of my list....i never even considered until i read a old "HOT ROD" from somewhere around 1994. they did it in a '92 Z28 i think....it looked like the lt1 belonged there..looked very natural..and it ran mid 12's i think...i'll have to dig it out and post it sometime

I totally believe I could get a good 300hp from just boltons, but I dont know what to do in the meantime because since im in college, all my money's gone. Im probably feeling like this because the car looks like crap from all the flippin rain, once I wash it itll change my mind and ill want to keep it forever, lol.
Long live the TBI's.......
Dont worry, im gonna prove em all wrong about 305 TBI's, as soon as I get more money. I still love em.....

Re: engine swap.....

LT1 all the way. You can basically just bolt the LT1 up to everything. Plus while you may be able to squeeze 300 out of TBI, thats just the starting point for a LT1.

Re: engine swap.....

Couple of my friends did a build on an 85 iroc, took a 350 from a 79 chevy 4x4, spent around $4k, got 350hp out of it, no turbo, happy gas, or anything like that. Just bolt ons and one huge cam.

Re: engine swap.....

I don't know about an LT1/LS1 swap, but going from 305-350 in my '92 has me out of about $3k already, and now I'm still not done...sucks. Just buy a different car with everything already done haha and please god don't go carb. I hate it.

Re: engine swap.....

Carbs like the dinosaur went extinct for a reason. Sure they can make lots of power and sure if tuned properly they can make a engine purr but can they use a computer to make a exact measurement of fuel for each cylinder based on how much air your sucking in to deliver peak performance while giving optimuim fuel economy. Not to mention anyone who has tried starting a carb on a cold winter morning while running late to work knows why FI is the way to go. Although carbs are still out there kicking ass at the track but its Fuel injection all the way for me.
