G20 Turbo

Hey everyone. This is my first post. I'm thinking of getting a 99-01 G20 for my first car. I can get one for about 14k with financing. Anyway, I've heard great things about the car and like its mix of luxury and style. The only thing it's missing is power. If I got one, I would want to turbocharge it. I would get automatic transmission, since manual is a pain in the ass for stop and go. What I want to know is whether or not it is possible to get a turbo for an auto tranny G20 from 99-01 and which one. The logical thing would be to get an SR20DET, but and engine swap is alot of trouble and it seems like an insurance hassle. Maybe not. Also, is there a reason (besides them being 6 cylinders, which shouldn't make a difference) that I couldn't get an RB26DETT or a VG30DETT? Which way should I go? Please respond if you have any ideas. Thanks

I doubt the RB26DETT or VG30DETT would fit. Several people have done the Turbo swap and been satisfied with the results. You shouldn't have any trouble finding an auto..nearly all G20s are automatic.

Hmm.... i read that wrong, yeah RB26DETT or VG30DETT is an engineering impossibility, in my opinion the SR20DET is the best 4cyl turbo ever made.

If you throw enough money at it you'll get the engine in but it's not worth it. By the time you squeeze the RB26DETT in you may as well have bought a pukka skyline.

Apart from being a straight six, it's mounted the wrong way, our sr20s are transverse mounted. It's a great idea but It's never going to happen.

Any way, you can get more power than you'll ever need out of the sr20. It really is the greatest 4-cylinder ever created.
