Max speed limit on SR20DET?
I read somewhere (where they posted all of the Nissan engines) that the max speed for a SR20DET is 112 mph, is that with all stock parts or is that what it is limited to and can that be raised because that seems slow to me, but than again I don't know much about cars let alone Nissans.

well, the engine in japan are not restricted that much like the US. i'm pretty sure the sr20det can top out above 130+mph since most honda can top at 130, meaning that a car manufacture by a company like nissan which is more superior will let you top out at a very high speed. Too make a engine top out more if you know it has greater potentiontial, then you have to upgrade the ECU.

They SAY in Japan that they cannot go past 112 mph which is about 180-190 kph...but the 240SX w/the speed limiter removed can go up to about 140-155 mph...so I believe that the SR20DET could go up to around 150 mph or more w/the limiter removed...just depends on how much rev's you got left once your in your final gear

I highly doubt a stock USDM 240sx can go up to 140mph, even without a limiter.

Modified 240SX...but nothing big...just basic power adders like intake, headers, exhaust, ECU (JWT), cams...
It can do close to 150MPH...I have witnesses just in case you further doubt...

I owned a Silvia when i lived in Japan. Almost all cars are governed at 180kph, inclueding the Silvia. But most people (and me) get the ECU reprogrammed moving the limit to 220kph. When my car hit the limiter, it was like hitting a wall, it definately felt as if the car would have kept going up to 240-250kph or so. Granted my Silvia had 300hp.
WARNING! At speeds over 120mph the cars light weight becomes a problem... Functional aero-body kits and spoilers highly recomended. |

it depends on what year SR your goin to swap in. if you swap in a S13 motor into a S13 your time would be around 6.3 seconds. with a S14 motor expect 6 flat. and with a S15 motor around 5.7 seconds.

As aaron97 all Japanese cars are limited to about 180kph, but its not that hard to get it removed, either with a piggy back ECU, or on a Nissan a nice easy trip to a reprogrammer.
As for top speed, im quite sure about 250+kph should be easy to reach. The biggest thing holding it back will be gear ratios, and aerodynamic stablity. I know my little Civic can do 240kph, and is only limited by the gear ratios, so Im sure a Turbo 180sx, or 240sx should be able to match or better that depending on the gear ratios.

In Europe (Netherland) we don't have a speed limiter on the S14's,
with an intake, exhuast and boosting 0.95 bar I reached a top speed of 258kph with still some rpm's more to go, but I don't like to rev my car that high. At this speed with the car lowered, it's very stable on the roads, not having any body-kits for aerodynamica. |
