Shogun door mirror.

I have a 95 shogun and need to replace the r/hand door mirror motor, as the fixing points have broken. How does one remove the mirror and motor to enable replacement. I dont understand why the mirror heating element can be unplugged, but the motor cannot. Does the complete unit have to be removed. Any help greatly appreciated.
