Why did you buy a $40K vehicle and not a $100 Factory Service Manual?

I think the only dirrerence really is that atf +4 is full synthetic, I dont think the other ones are. I could be wrong though.

Re: Dodge ram 50 trans fluid?

Aren't RAM 50's from the early 80's and have a 904 trans (auto)?
In that case you could probably use Dextron/Mercron.
I would recommend ATF+3 though.
There was a bulitin regarding newer 3-speed autos up to '99, recommending not using ATF+4. I think it may be "to slick" (friction modified) for those transmissions.

I thought all newer came w/ OD which would be 4th gear. i read somewhere to use the atf +4 in my 98 cuz it was an upgrade from prior atf. because it is full synthetic. i hope

Re: Dodge ram 50 trans fluid?

RAM 50's are built by Mitsubishi and I think the newest ones are from around '91 or so (dis-continued model). The ATF+ series was originally developed for the "UltraDrive" fwd 4-speed auto that came out around '91 or so.

Re: Dodge ram 50 trans fluid?

Amsoil ATF should work for you; I wasn't able to find any other reference. However in that year, you had basically Dexron/Mercon and Fort type F ATF fluid. If you're not going synthetic, my vote would be for the Dexron.
