Porsche Boxster Facelift

Porsche Boxster Facelift
Rumour about Boxster Turbo or Boxster 3.4 turned out to be wrong as Porsche finally announces the facelifted Boxster, with a modest power increase of just 8hp. In other words, the Boxster 2.7 now produces 228hp while Boxster S pumps out 260hp. A couple of tenths are cut from 0-60mph as a result. The power upgrade is achieved by using a more effective version of variable valve timing, probably the newer "Variocam Plus" first appeared in 911 Turbo. The old Boxster used a cam-chain-based VVT called Variocam dated back to the 968-era. Torque for the 2.7 is unchanged at 192lbft, while the 3.2 gets 4 additional pound-foot to 229lbft.

Apart from engine, the facelifted Boxster of course gets a facelift, most notably is the new bumper / air intake / lip spoiler. They bring better cooling as well as lower aerodynamic lift at high speed. There are also some tweaks to wheels and interior but overall speaking the facelift is very conservative. There is no change to suspension setup at all - admittedly, no much can be improved. However, the biggest disappointment is that Porsche still deliberately limit the performance of Boxster to prevent from challenging 911. This leave the Boxster S now far slower than SLK32 AMG, M Roadster / M Coupe and TVR Tamora. The Porsche is still the best in the segment, but more power could have earn it an all-time classic status.

The Boxster wheel options for this year are rather nice, though. The cars we've gotten in at work so far have been real sharp.
