ok i had this idea today but i'm not sure if it's possible.. i want to know if it is possible with any amoutn of rewiring rearranging and refabricating wheel wells and all that bs if you can fit a 350 small block into an 86 toyota rwd truck. if ti is even a little possible i'm goijng to attempt it (mucho power) if not.. what engine would give me the biggest bang for my buck

been done dozens of time in 4x4's. Try searching around for an offroad forum that has toyota's. I think a 2x4 wouldn't be that different.

i think the biggest bang for the buck might actually be a v6 4.3L GM engine. It is decently strong, lighter (than a V8), it is smaller (less mods to get it to fit), and it can be made to make a lot of power. They are very common, blazers and jimmy's are everywhere. Yes, v8's are also very common, but you will have to a ton of work just to fit the v8 in there, and you might have to do some suspension mods to for the added weight (important for the 2wd). If you want all the power of a v8, then go for the v8, just dont expect it to drop in.... you'll need to also use a tranny made for the v8 too( this is the same with the v6). Oh and dont forget headers and the exhaust system, they too need to fit. And finally dont forget brakes (VERY important) With the added weight and power of the larger engine you will need some mighty stopping power. I'd suggest really looking into doing it before starting or you could be in over your head. Read all the forums that you can, starting in this one, do forum searches, do search engine searches, and read. It has definitely been done before in 4x4 pickups, so it is most likely possible in your 2wd. I hope i have helped you in some way. Good luck and have fun.

It's done all the time in 4WD p/u's, but w/a 2WD there will be issues with the suspension and oil pan clearance for starters. A 2-3" BL will be needed also.

If after all that you still want to pursue the v-8 option, Buick made a really small v-8, @ 250 C.I., back in the 60s that would be a GREAT option to use if you can find one...

In my opinion, the ford 5.0 is the best option for a v8 swap. The distributor is in the front of the motor, so you won't have trouble with clearance with the fire wall. It is also narrower than the chevy small block. You can buy just about every adapter for the swap from a bell housing to use your existing transmission to wiring harness to hook up fuel injection. It is also a good idea to use an engine from the year your truck was built or newer to ensure it will pass any emissions laws in your area.
I wish I had the means to do it, but I will just have to live vicariously through you, so good luck on your project!

ya it's possable i'm doing it in a 76 hilux 2wd just be preparedtospend a lot of money and do alot of fabrication.

things that have to be chagened are you need a 4 core radiator which requires you to cut out and reweld your main support. exsaust is hard to fit between the engine and frame rails dive shaft needs to be resized the rear end will not hold up to that much power and will have to be replaced on a chevy v8 the distributer is in the back and you have to cut out your firewall and refab it you need to cut out your floor for the tranny to fit and refab it the oilpan wont fit and you have to cut it shorter and wider suspension needs to be stiffer brakes stronger and so on.

it cost alot of money but it can be done.
